Oh how glad I was for this very day to arrive because I was looking forward to just unwinding during our honeymoon after the wedding was over and done with.

The tea ceremony and chip san leong ceremony was held a week after my ROM.

We decided to have the ROM on a separate day
because we didn't want to stress ourselves out by having a jam packed schedule.

Looking back, I should have enjoyed every moment of it
but the whole day just ended in the blink of an eye.

Whenever I look through my wedding pics,
I cringe at most of the pics
because of my fake looking smile.
Should have practiced smiling before the wedding but it's too late for that now.

I couldn't smile naturally after having to smile in so many pictures.

On your wedding day, you will get a taste of what it's like to be a 'celebrity'
with everybody wanting to take a picture with you.

The only emotion that I can vividly remember on this very day was one of sadness and annoyance (thanks to a certain somebody who didn't get the memo).  I can't stop bitching about him to Mike whenever his name crops up. Scarred for life yo. Hahaha.

After Mike picked me up to go to his place, once the tea ceremony all over and done with,
I went back home to collect my luggage bag to bring to the hotel.

The atmosphere was a vast difference from a few hours before that with all the games and laughter and the boisterous crowd. 

It was quiet and I felt so sad (you have no idea how sad I was) to see my parents and family just being at home and how life goes on and the thought of me, not being there anymore. Emo Nemo I was.

The Union

It amazes me to think of how Mike and I managed to get to this stage.
It definitely wasn't easy - at least not for me (I know that I've repeated myself time and time again but this is the truth). 

Before I attended the marriage preparation course, I did think of getting married in church (it would have been ideal for me but it wasn't necessary) or at least that's what I thought of then.

It was until I discovered how ignorant I was on how deep and meaningful this union really was. It was not just a union between my husband and I but it's the covenant that we have entered with God as husband and wife.

And so, I wanted to do things the "right way"
(I know that this is subjective to many).

I wanted the church to be involved and this is how our journey started -

At first, it was realising that going to church on Sunday wasn't enough.
There were so many processes and procedures to go through
and there were times, many times that I wanted to back out
because it really would have been so much more convenient
to not have to go through all of this.

But now in hindsight, I am so glad that we persevered
and I know that God's hand was definitely in it - 
especially during moments when I felt like giving up.

I would be reminded of why I am doing it -
and how there are so many others who have also
sacrificed their time to help us make it happen.

How could I have been so selfish to think of my own convenience
when it was actually very beneficial for us?

I've learnt so much about God's word on marriage
and also understanding why is it as such.

We've made so many new friends over the past year through church
and they have been a great blessing in our lives.

Seeing how they graciously offered their help
without us having to ask first
made me reflect on myself as an individual.
I could really see God's love through them.

They even planned a surprise stag + hen's night for us!

It was awkward initially, having to assimilate ourselves in a cell group
where we didn't know anyone at all -
I can't imagine how our lives would have crossed had we not joined a cell.

And the funny thing us, I have always wanted to join a cell and to be more involved prior to it being mandatory for us to join a cell as part of the marriage procedure.

Perhaps, if joining a cell wasn't mandatory, with my bad procrastination and with Mike's complacency, I'm not sure if we would ever join one. I can just imagine ourselves joining one and dropping out in a few weeks.

I can only thank God that he placed us in this cell full of wonderful people :)

Just a tip for those of you who can relate to this whole experience of wanting to get married in church but are frustrated with the processes, just pray about it and He will make the process much more bearable.

6 years

A few weeks before we tied the knot, we celebrated our 6th year anniversary.

Wasn't expecting much because we were so swamped with the wedding preparations
and with a huge dent in our savings account,
all that I had in mind was a simple dinner.

However, Mike surprised me with a bouquet of flowers :)
And brought me to Mandarin Grill for dinner.

I was extremely thrilled because I have always wanted to dine there years ago
when there was all the surrounding hype and publicity on the ability to choose your preferred 'steak knife' to cut with . . . (yes, I'm a sucker like that). LOL.

Lilies and hydrangeas - my favourite flowers. I LOVE the smell of lilies.

I love the smell of freshly baked buns too :P

Wood Fired Steak, Libourne

We were driving around Libourne searching for places to eat.

Got down from our cars in between searching for dinner,
walked around a little
whilst enjoying the view of the river.

Can't remember if we crossed the road from the river or drove around after walking around (my memory's a little fuzzy)…. but we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant called 'Restaurant Hotel'. CLICK.

No offense to the restaurant's name but the first impression I had was that it must be some sort of tourist trap restaurant and I wouldn't have even thought of entering.

However, Louis asked a diner who just left the restaurant on how was the food and apparently, the diner mentioned that they serve the BEST wood fire steak in town.

I didn't understand what the diner was saying but his expression had said it all.

Oh what a beauty! Wood Fired Steak.

Loved the smokey and woody taste.

Can't remember the other orders - since I ermmm…was just snapping pictures of people's food.

Le Medieval, Saint Emilion

Lunch @ Le Medieval was extremely memorable for me
because I discovered - Magret de Canard thanks to Louis' recommendation.

Travelling with a French dude in France sure makes life way a lot easier.

Louis and Yashoda helped us to translate menus
provide food recommendations
and in between, gave us French classes for dummies. Hehe.

I didn't even get to try Mike's main meal because he finished everything without offering. TSK TSK.

The Magret de Canard (duck breast) that I had was SO good. Served with foie gras sauce.
It doesn't even taste like duck at all (to me at least) - it tasted like a piece of steak.
A good piece of steak. Juicy and extremely tasty.

I tried googling to see where I could buy Magret de Canard from in KL and I can't find it anywhere :~(

Saint-Emilion - ze wine region

Sometimes, I regret taking more pictures of food than people because pictures reinforces my memory and all I can remember is what I ate, while the surroundings (atmosphere, ambience and people) are pretty fuzzy in my memory.

Not that I can't remember who did I go with, but I like capturing the candid expressions of people and looking back at those pics while reminiscing those happy moments.

I think that at least 50% of my travelling pictures all revolve around food.

So this post, for a change, will have no pictures of food (canned foie gras and an ice cream stall does not count).

The drive from the chateau to Saint Emilion was really scenic.

Food always tastes better overseas. Sampled some foie gras and bought a few cans home but somehow, with the Malaysian weather and ambience at home, eating foie gras at home with crackers just doesn't taste as good.

I need to eat it in France! Hee hee.

A super fun bunch to travel with :)
Had heaps of fun and endless laughter moments with these peeps throughout our trip.

Saint-Emilion is popular for its wine and also for its charming medieval villages.
Wonder what it is like to live here.
